Isn't this sad?

They make me feel like the prison warden! I think they're watching the dogs out in the yard, running free while they are forcefully housebound. Well, nothing wants to take the dogs home for "dinner" and, besides, the dogs come home at night, while these two would rather spend the night doing whatever it is cats do at night and it's just too temping for assorted hungry beasts this time of year. But they have a nice perch there atop the fleece and yarn bins with a view of the squirrel feeder.

Off to see the blizzard....

Well, we weren't really expecting the blizzard but I know you guys have all had experiences with the Weather Wizards and their predictions. It was a bit adventuresome but we made it up to Sis's and back. Had a great stay at the Ashland Springs Hotel, too. A nice leisurely dinner and a great view from the 9th & top floor! That's an experience for a couple of country people. lol

We're home again and glad to be here but we enjoyed out Xmas treat as well. Our wonderful neighbor not only tended the dogs for us but built a fire this morning so the house wasn't an ice palace when we returned. Thank you!

White Christmas

A view of the young maple against the steely sky. I have this one on the desktop. It's cold looking, but surely says Winter!
Like everyone else, we have been getting ready for the holidays, but had some sad news last evening. Randy's dad passed away. It was not unexpected but casts a shadow over the season. His Mom & his grandfather both also died just before Christmas.
We are going to be out of town for a few days.
Hope your Christmas is brighter.
Drive carefully and stay warm!

The Bug!

It took me longer, I think, to make the Yellow Jacket for my bro-in-law's hat than it did to weave the hat and knit the ribbing. I added the ribbing because I had yarn left and also to make sure it would cover his ears out there in the cold. All in all, I think it turned out very well. I posted a picture of the whole hat on http://www.hazelroselooms.com/workbook/ if you'd like to see that view. Randy and I are going up after Xmas (weather willing!) to visit and we'll take the presents with us. I'll post a photo of Rosy's after she gets it as she does occasionally read my blogs! lol

Another hat.

I'm afraid my bro-in-law might find this hat that I wove for him to be a little too fem. I've ask sis what she thinks but she says, "If it keeps his ears warm what difference does it make?" Well, I dunno, but I've a feeling it might! lol (The ribbing is knitted, of course.)

But if I like it! And my ears could use some warming the temp is down to 28 already this evening and the sky is diamond studded with stars. I have to admit that I did enjoy the sunshine today even if it was Very Brisk!

Will it snow as they say? Tell you in the morning...

Merry, Merry...

This is my decorating for the season this year. There is just the two of us and I really don't have room for a tree in this small house. Last year I got out Momma's ceramic tree, but I don't think I'll even do that this year. I slogged around in the yard in the rain gathering greenery and berries for the bouquet and dug out the whatchamacallits... those brass things with the bells and angels. I also got out the Santa music box. I have to look for the bell... We've had that out every year since the kids were small. It plays Jingle Bells and they used to drive us batty with it! My one 'tradition' for the season! lol
Well, I hope your holiday is noisy and full of fun and family.
Be safe and stay warm!

Kathy's Purses

My cousin has been knitting and felting purses of wool and novelty yarns. They are everyone unique and, well, just delightful! She has done a wonderful job with them They are all lined and have handy pockets inside as well. She took them all (I think she said she knitted 60 of them!) to the fabric store and picked out the fabric for the linings individually so they'd be sure to match. There's nothing generic about Kathy's purses! She worked on some of them when they were up and I intended to get a photo of her and all the bags, but time just flew by and next thing I knew everything was packed and we were saying goodbye!Well, if you are anywhere near Oakland, CA this coming weekend, do go see for yourself ... and tell Kathy I sent you! Kathy and her purses are not to miss and the Terrace is also worth the trip. :)
And if you can't get to Oakland and want to make your own, weave two 12" squares (on your Hazel Rose Loom, of course) with a wool yarn and whatever novelty yarns you have at hand. Sew them together and baste the opening and toss in the washer. After than you can line it, add handles or a strap... whatever, and you'll have a great bag.

Kathy's Purse... for me!

Here's the purse Kathy gave me (the Darling!). I carried it to the Red Hat party. It was perfect! I'll be using it a lot, not just for Red Hat. It's a good sturdy purse, beside being very pretty!

Inside story

Kathy's lined mine with this red and metallic plaid. It's perfect!

A Red Hat Xmas

Here I am modeling my Red Hat Xmas Gift. We had a luncheon at the Sasquash, and she did a great job for us as usual, then went to a members house for the gift exchange and party. I had to leave early so I could bid good-bye to our cousins, who have been here three weeks. It was a sad parting but they both promise they're coming back this winter!
I called Randy, and his Dad is much better. He was dehydrated and malnutritioned. The docs are pumping him full of goodies, so he was awake and coherent today. Recognized Randy and was even able to converse a bit. It looks like he'll be going into a vet's care home once he leaves the hospital. Randy was cheered up some today, but he probably won't be home before Friday.
But me'n the dogs will be fine and busy. Another storm expected to snow on us this week. Hope you are staying warm!
